Maori Culture & Arts
Anyone visiting Rotorua must experience one of the many Maori
Cultural shows. At Sudima we are lucky to have a nightly
performance by the award winning Te Roopa Maori Cultural experience in-house.
If you have a little more time, and want to experience more
Te Puia
Follow your storyteller through the forest through to the Maori
village as you watch the re-enactment of the first story in the
Chronicles of Uitara. Enjoy learning firsthand about the welcome
and farewell ceremonies and taste a traditional meal, the hangi (a meal cooked underground using
steam). See warriors at Miti Village
travelling downstream; enjoy a guided bush walk, an energetic maori performance and much more.
ROTORUA MUSEUM - TE WHARE TAONGA O TE ARAWA
Visit Rotorua's excellent museum to hear the stories which have
shaped the past and present of our
region. The Rotorua Museum is located in the architecturally iconic
and world-famous Bath House. Exhibitions include the violent
and devastating eruption of Mount Tarawera, the fascinating story
of B Company 28 Maori Battalion in World War II and a stunning
exhibition of ancient taonga
(treasures) of the Maori people.
The 'Rotorua Stories' cinematic experience is one aspect of the
museum that you must see. CGI technology brings our fascinating and
turbulent past to life, while surround-sound puts you right in each
dramatic scene. This cinema experience runs every 20 minutes.
